Abstract
This dataset is part of the assessment and mapping of foreshore value, condition and pressure in the Southern Natural Resource Management (NRM) Region of Tasmania. The 17 line maps produced in this study are intended to be used as a tool to assist managers and stakeholders in the identification of management issues with regards to foreshore planning, development, and natural resources. Assessment of the foreshore is based on the division of the high water line into 100m segments. Using a decision matrix and rule set, each foreshore segment is assigned a score for three main components: fields, attributes and indices. Segments are colour coded based on their attribute or index score to reflect the differing levels of overall natural value, human use value, condition, pressure or components thereof. This digital line map is a representation of the geomorphic value of the intertidal zone in the southern NRM region and is an attribute layer supporting the overall Natural Value Index. Geomorphic value is calculated based on the geovalue and sensitivity of each foreshore segment according to the Coastal Values geomorphic mapping and the Tasmanian Geoconservation Database. Shore type is also considered. An explanatory report is available from the data custodian which provides detailed methodology and further explanation of the dataset.

Lineage Statement
The line map of the mean high water mark (MHWM) derived from the Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) 1:25,000 Hydrography layer (supplied 2006) forms the basis of all mapping and is used to represent the intertidal zone. The entire coastline in the southern NRM region, including islands and national parks, is divided into 100m line segments of which there are over 34,000 in total. Each segment is assigned a unique identifier and attributed with data relevant to each attribute from a variety of sources. Each foreshore segment is assigned a score from 1 to 5 based on a decision matrix and rule set. A score of 1 represents the highest geomorphic value, whilst a score of 5 represents areas of least geomorphic value. Datasets used to support assessment of the geomorphic value of the foreshore are Tasmanian Shoreline Geomorphic Types Digital Line Map V 4.0 (ANZTA0015000054), Geoconservation Areas and Geoconservation Points (ANZTA0005000145) and the Tasmanian Geoconservation Database Version 5.0. Further information on the source data and processing steps is presented in the report listed under additional metadata.
Lineage Description
Position Accuracy: Base data for the intertidal line map is taken from the LIST Hydrographic layer. Shorelines formed by artificial features are a compilation of - 1:25 000 Digital Data - Photogrammetric has the following accuracy: Horizontal: Not less than 90% of well defined detail is within 12.5 metres of true. 1:5 000 Digital Data - Photogrammetric data has the following accuracy: Horizontal: Not less than 90% of well defined data is within 2.5 metres of true. 1:25 000 Digital Data - Scanned and on screen digitising has the following accuracy: Horizontal: Not less than 90% of well defined data is within 17.5 metres of true position. 1:5 000 Digital Data - Scanned and on screen digitising has the following accuracy: Horizontal: Not less than 90% of well defined data is within 3.5 metres of true position. These accuracies may not be achieved in areas of dense vegetation. Assumed features have no positional accuracy. MHWM, and coincident MHWM and MLWM: Horizontal: Not less than 90% of well defined detail is within 50 metres of true. Attribute Accuracy: Interpretation of aerial imagery and inferences made from local knowledge and selected publications have not been ground-truthed. The accuracy of a number of attributes is based on the accuracy of supporting data and listed metadata reports should be referred to. Where the value of a field is unknown, a value of "unknown" has been assigned. Blank cells do not represent unknown values. Logical Consistency: This dataset is derived from interpretation of various existing datasets using consistent methodologies and rule sets. All line segments are checked for duplicate features and correct data attribution. Metadata reports for datasets listed should be referred to for further detail on logical consistency. Completeness: The layer is complete for intertidal zone of the entire Southern NRM Region and all segments have been attributed with derived attribute and index scores or a classification of "No data". "No data" is assigned where geographical coverage of supporting data is incomplete for the southern region. Individual metadata reports for listed data sets should be referred to for further detail. Additional: This dataset is one of 17 produced as part of the assessment of foreshores in the Southern NRM Region. An explanatory report can be obtained from http://www.aquenal.com.au/reports.htm or by emailing coastal.enquiries@environment.tas.gov.au.
