Abstract
A planning scheme regulates the way land can be used or developed. A planning scheme has two parts: - text that sets out the requirements or standards for use and development, and - maps that show zones and overlays indicating where requirements or standards apply. The Tasmanian Planning Scheme Zoning data comprises the zoning maps for those parts of the State where the Tasmanian Planning Scheme is in effect. The data is linked to the planning scheme text published online. The electronic planning map, together with the electronic planning instrument, is the authorised version of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme under section 80M of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993.

Lineage Statement
The Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) has responsibility for maintaining the dataset to ensure data quality standards are preserved, to accommodate future zone amendments, and to realign zone boundaries to comply with ongoing changes to the state-wide cadastre where necessary. The dataset is continually being updated .
Lineage Description
Planning schemes have been compiled by each Tasmanian municipality. TPC provided a set of business rules to guide construction of GIS layers. Council data was submitted to TPC between 2017-2021 for assessment. Additional data quality provisions were specified by TPC to ensure the datasets conformed to the accuracy, consistency and completeness prerequisites required to publish the data on the Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) website. ArcGIS topology tools are employed to check topological consistency and conformity to data quality specifications. Positional accuracy: Zone boundaries that are aligned with LIST parcel boundaries share the same positional accuracy as parcel boundaries. Zone boundaries aligned with local government area boundaries share the same positional accuracy. A significant number of zone boundaries are located along formed roads. In most cases these boundaries follow or are close to road centrelines, and are confined within road corridor (casement) parcels. In these situations zone boundary accuracy is not specified. Attribute accuracy: Zoning attributes have been exhaustively checked and can be assumed > 99% correct. Completeness: The state-wide zoning layer is currently under construction Further information on planning schemes can be found on the Tasmanian Planning Commission website at https://www.planning.tas.gov.au/home
