Abstract |
Road Geometry measures for the Proclaimed State Road network are contained in this dataset. The measures were collected in 2012 by vehicular instruments by the ARRB Group (Consultants). Instantaneous measures were collected at a ten metre intervals (for prescribed and counter direction) and include: Heights (AHD), Bearing, Grade, Vertical Curvature, Horizontal Curvature, Cross Slope & Geometry Speed. The survey is usually undertaken every three years. |
Lineage Statement |
The survey was undertaken in 2012 by Australian Road Research Board Group (ARRB). The survey was undertaken using a Nissan Patrol 4WD. Geometry is collected via an inertial system connected with a GPS and accurate trip meter. The data was processed using proprietary software. The vehicle drove the State Road network at highway speeds. Results are collected at 10 metre intervals - recorded as a GPS point. Heights from the survey were derived from GPS, where there was sufficient signal strength or in places where the GPS signal dropped out, reverted to the inertial system.
The point data was subsequently converted to 10m line segments with the GPS point near the centre. The segments may not overlap precicely onto of the original GPS point (+/- 3m 90% of the time), but all attributes remain the same.
