The Future Coastal Refugia Area Guidance Map has been prepared to provide guidance for local government in preparing the future coastal refugia area overlay for the application of the Natural Assets Code as part of the Local Provisions Schedules in the Tasmanian Planning Scheme. The Guidance Map provides guidance for mapping the future coastal refugia area overlay by identifying potential future coastal saltmarsh and tidal wetland areas based on the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) predicted sea level rise and 1% AEP storm surge height mapping for 2100, including areas with and without LiDAR coverage. The Guidance Map categorises the land in accordance with the current interim planning schemes and Flinders Planning Scheme 2000 zones for the purposes of mapping the future coastal refugia area overlay. The future coastal refugia area overlay in Local Provisions Schedules should be derived from the Guidance Map in accordance with Guideline No. 1 â Local Provisions Schedule (LPS): zone and code application: https://www.planning.tas.gov.au/assessment-resources/section-8a-guidelines

The upper extent of tidal saltmarsh, and possibly tidal wetlands, corresponds with current 1%AEP storm surge height. Mapping provided is the hypothetical areas where these habitats may occur by 2100 if there are no barriers to landward transgression with sea-level rise. Where there is currently coastal LiDAR coverage, the Future Coastal Refugia Area Guidance Map includes the spatial area defined by DPAC 2016 âlow, medium and highâ Coastal Inundation Hazard Bands 20161201â as published on the LIST, where contiguous with the coastline. Where there is currently no coastal LiDAR coverage the Guidance Map includes the spatial area defined by DPAC 2012 modelling of possible 2100 1%AEP storm surge height. The zones are categorised as incompatible, special consideration, case by case consideration, or compatible as per Guideline No. 1 â Local Provisions Schedule (LPS): zone and code application: https://www.planning.tas.gov.au/assessment-resources/section-8a-guidelines and also identifies if more accurate LiDAR, or less accurate modelled heights have been applied.
