The carriageway dataset is the authoritative spatial dataset used in the administration and management of state road assets by the Department of State Growth. It records the location of proclaimed state roads under the Roads and Jetties Act & Highways Act. This dataset is captured and stored using the Tasmanian Road Information Positioning System (TRIPS) consisting of a Linear Referencing System (LRS) and a geographical coordinate system.

Introduced in 1998 based on a GPS survey. Since then updated whenever the road network changed using "as built" road construction drawings. Recently, alignment accuracy has improved for some parts of the dataset through use of high resolution aerial photography. Updates made to this dataset are transferred to the LIST on a regular basis to update the statewide "Transport" data set.

Positional Accuracy: Original 1998 GPS survey (20m horizontal accuracy), as built road construction drawings (nominally up to 1:1000). Road asset information is accurate to within +/- 10m of the true position 90 % of the time. Attribute Accuracy: Attributes are estimated at 98% correct. Please advise if errors found.
