The LIST Hillshade Colour Basemap layer is a state-wide image derived from digital elevation data. Patterns of light and shadow have been used to create a three dimensional appearance of the terrain.

The hillshade image was generated using 1-meter resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from LiDAR data. In areas without LiDAR coverage, the dataset was supplemented with a 10-meter state-wide DEM produced from photogrammetric contour data. A Geoscience Australia bathymetric grid has been used to provide a broad scale depiction of the ocean and mainland Australia.

Positional Accuracy: The hillshade image is compiled from a number of elevation data sources and as such, accuracy varies according to source. Therefore, accuracy is similar to this map series and is generally in the order of 6-12 metres. However, absolute accuracy can be in the order of 18 metres in some place.
