Abstract
Borehole features across Tasmania derived from the Borehole Database, derived from the Mineral Occurrence Database, which is a component of the Tasmanian Information on Geoscience and Exploration Resources (TIGER) system; administered by Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT). Borehole features are shown subdivided into several individual categories (Engineering Geology, Fuels, Geothermal, Groundwater, Metallic Minerals, Non Metallic Minerals and Stratigraphic) which define the main purpose of the borehole. The summary borehole data includes: name, the purpose, drilling method, operator, driller, date drilled, start point the borehole length, elevation datum, positional accuracy, azimuth, dip, geographic location and if the core is held by Mineral Resources Tasmania. A Details field provides a link to a Drilling Details page where further information may be available.

Lineage Statement
The Borehole data are derived from the Borehole Database, which is a component of the Tasmanian Information on Geoscience and Exploration Resources (TIGER) system; administered by Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT). Data was originally maintained in a FORTRAN database until 1990, when it was migrated to Microsoft Access 2.0. Migrated to Oracle in 2002. Data is acquired from Government drill logs and company technical reports.
Lineage Description
Positional Accuracy: In general, data was entered to within +-100m up to 1986, and has improved since then. The location attributes were verified in 1999 using a geographic place names database to within about 1km. Since then, geographic verification has been completed for about 80% of boreholes. All reasonable effort has been made to ensure these boreholes are accurately located, however many pre 1980 boreholes were originally located on local grids, with no reference to a modern datum. Estimates of positional accuracy can vary as a function of how and when data were captured. Attribute Accuracy: Data is from a range of sources, spanning several decades, but mostly from the best hardcopy or more recently digital sources available. All reasonable effort has been made to ensure these occurrences are accurately attributed. Logical Consistency: The data held in the Borehole Database, from which this dataset is derived, has been compiled from a range of sources, spanning several decades, with a range of mapping methodologies and effort. As a result there is variation in the logical consistency of the data across Tasmania. Verification has largely eliminated repetitions. Completeness: The data held in the Borehole Database, from which this dataset is derived, has been compiled from a range of sources, spanning several decades, with a range of mapping methodologies and effort. As a result not all attribute fields have been populated. Drill logs have not been exhaustively captured. Only data available to the public domain is displayed. The Borehole database is independent from but partially overlaps with information that is publicly available with the Groundwater Information Access Portal, maintained and operated by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
