Abstract
Polygons of proclaimed Landslip Areas in Tasmania, with reference to the Statutory Rules (government orders) under which these areas were declared. The Tasmanian Government has declared A Landslip and B Landslip areas (otherwise known as Proclaimed Landslip Areas) in parts of Tasmania under the authority of the Mineral Resources Development Act 1995 (sections 161A- 161D). These proclaimed areas are designed to prohibit or restrict building and other activities in particular areas of unstable land, as specified under the Building Act 2000 (Part 10 Division 1). In essence A Landslip areas are those where no more development is allowed, while B Landslip areas allow development with strict controls designed to protect the stability of both the underlying B Landslip area and adjacent A Landslip areas. Declaration of these areas is not undertaken regularly and only a relatively small number of areas exist, compared to the much greater area of land that can be considered as potentially unstable. Proclaimed Landslip Areas are proscriptive zones and quite different to advisory zones, such as those shown on the susceptibility maps in the Tasmanian Landslide Map Series.

Lineage Statement
The polygons of proclaimed (or declared) Landslip Areas have been digitised, from official plans that define each of the proclaimed Landslip Areas (dating back to 1972). This indicative polygon data is maintained by Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT), Department of State Growth. The official plans are noted in the relevant Statutory Rules and can be obtained by contacting the Land Titles Office. The boundaries defined on these plans may follow either natural boundaries or cadastral boundaries, or a combination of both, and may also incorporate a buffer to such features. From time to time MRT has found it necessary to revise the polygons of some proclaimed Landslip Areas due to shifts that occur as the positional accuracy of the state-wide cadastral dataset is improved.
Lineage Description
Positional Accuracy: The polygons of proclaimed Landslip Areas are indicative only and should not be relied upon to define the boundaries on the ground. The boundaries of proclaimed Landslip Areas are not necessarily defined by a survey and so a professional site survey will be required, with reference to the official plans, to identify exactly where the boundaries of the proclaimed Landslip Areas are on the ground. The boundaries defined on these plans may follow either natural boundaries or cadastral boundaries, or a combination of both, and may also incorporate a buffer to such features. Where the boundaries are based on property boundaries then the positional accuracy will be reliant on the positional accuracy of the cadastral information for that property. Attribute Accuracy: All reasonable effort has been made to ensure the indicative polygons of proclaimed Landslip Areas are accurately located and attributed with reference to the relevant Statutory Rules and official plans. Logical Consistency: All of the polygons of proclaimed Landslip Areas have been checked for topological consistency. Completeness: This dataset includes representations of all of the current proclaimed Landslip Areas within Tasmania. It does not include proclaimed Landslip Areas that have since been revoked due to revisions.
